 HOW TO SLOW DOWN YOUR PLANTAINS🍌 FROM RIPENING FASTER

🍌Green plantains can easily becoming ripe at room temperature, if not used immediately.


🍌Preserving your plantains properly will help to keep them from turning brown quickly, going bad or ripening quickly.


🍌The following methods can slow down your plantains from ripening quicker:

1. TYING METHOD

Cut the plantains off the trunk, then using rubber/plastic wrap or aluminum foil and tie the cut out end/stem of the plantains. The whole purpose is to stop oxygen from going in through that end/stem. Oxygen causes the chemical reaction which causes the plantains to ripen. Make sure you tie the plantains very well and keep them in a cool, dry place, away from rats and cockroaches and your plantains will stay longer to ripen.


2. REFRIGERATING METHOD

Put your unripe plantains in a nylon bag/plastic bag and place in your fridge to refrigerate. The plantains can last for up to 1 week without getting fully ripped. 


3. FREEZING METHOD

Put your unripe plantains in a nylon bag/plastic bag and place in your freezer. The plantains can last for 2 to 3 weeks without getting ripped.


4. SOAKING METHOD

In a bowl of water, submerge your green plantains in it. Make sure the water covers the stem properly. Change the water every 2 days, to keep them fresh. This method will slow down the ripening process.


5. SPRINKLING METHOD

Always sprinkle water on the plantains and keep them in a cool, dry place. This method will help to slow down the ripening process.


6. CHEMICAL USING METHOD

Dip your green plantains in fungicide and store with purafil in polyurethane bags. The plantains will remain green for 3 to 4 weeks. Fruits stored with purafil or potassium permanganate kept longer.

🍌Separating the plantains from each other can help somehow to slow down the ripening process.


🍌 Keeping your plantains in a cool environment or place, can slow down the ripening process.


🍌Keeping the plantains away from heat or direct Sunlight can help to slow down the ripening process. Make sure the plantain is not closer to your gas cooker/stove or any heat source.


🍌Storing the plantains in a cool, dry and dark place can slow down the ripening process.
